----- cyl ----- > "Trust the computer industry to shorten "Year 2000" to Y2K. It was > this kind of thinking that caused the problem in the first place." See, there's nothing wrong with that. You gotta understand that all engineers are just bunch O lazy bones. They HATE to do thing the hard way so they came up with all kind of idea to make their own life easier. Thus came air-conditioner (so they don't have to sweat when coming out with new ideals), automobile (so they don't have walk for so long under sun/rain to go where they want to be), long distance communications (so they don't have to go anywhere to get the msg thru), airplane (so they can go further distance away faster than automobiles), bridges (so they don't have to make huge loop, or change to a different transportation, to go the the other side) , etc etc etc. You get the point. Human race is lazy almost as lazy as engineers, so whenever engineers came out with new ideals, rest people adapt to them. And guess what, engineers are human too, so once in a while their "make like easy" idea may contain flaw left for the future generation to deal with. Computer engineers happen to make a remarkable tool "computer" that does exactly what we tell them to do accurately and fast. When the human did not send a clear msg to computer, it will also make the unintended mistake accurately and fast. Conclusion: Having Y2K issue is just part of being human.
